The Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA) gets started a few weeks before its FHSAA brethren. This year, the SIAA schedule is set up as each team plays one another on a home-and-home basis. Potter’s House out of Jacksonville took to the road to face West Oaks out of Orlando. The Lions only suited up six players for the contest, putting them at a disadvantage before the contest began.
After four minutes, West Oaks led by just three at 10-7. From that point, the Flames began to pull away. They led by eight at 24-16 with 8:45 left in the first half. An 8-2 run over the span of the next two minutes pushed the lead into double-digits. By the end of the half, that lead ballooned to over twenty with the score 49-27.
The second half did not go any better for Potter’s House. By the eight minute mark, West Oak’s lead was now thirty at 84-54 and a running clock kicked in. The Flames would go on to win in a blowout, 92-61.
Selton Miguel, a 6’5 senior committed to Kansas State, led all scorers with 32 points. He was tough to contain when attacking the basket but also finished 3-7 from beyond the arc. Add-in his three rebounds, five assists and two steals and it was as good of a performance as we’ve seen from him.
Jadrian Tracy, a 6’4 senior, was also a key contributor for West Oaks. A D-I talent in his own right, Tracy finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. He played multiple positions in the game on the offensive end and forced a lot of turnovers in the Flames’ double-teaming defense.
A.J. Neal, a 6’0 junior, also tallied in double figures with 14 points, connecting on four of nine from deep. He also tallied some notable assists in transition that resulted in highlight worthy dunks.
Maybe the biggest surprise was 6’5 senior Carl Bigord and his 4-5 performance from behind the three-point arc. If he can keep that up, he becomes a tremendous weapon off the bench.
While Potter’s House may have taken an “L”, there were still some bright moments.
Mayoum Mayoum, a 6’4 senior, produced 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Known as an attacking slasher and capable finisher at the basket, his four of nine tally from deep was a pleasant surprise.
Rodney Pete, a 6’5 senior, continued to impress after first seeing him nearly a month ago at the JUCO showcase. He was the main reason Potter’s House was able to stay close early on in the first half. He finished with 14 points.
Brandon Harris, a 6’6 senior, added 12 points to the cause. At first glance, he appears to be a combo forward with some perimeter range but also a guy that can do some of the dirty work inside.
