The JUCO All-American Jamboree took place this past weekend at The Big House in Tavares.  While the event features many of the top Junior College teams from Florida and other parts of the country, the event also is a showcase for Post-Grad programs as well as schools competing in the SIAA.  The event was packed with coaches from all over the country and from all collegiate levels.  We focused our limited time and full attention on the participating SIAA schools.  Below are just a few of the standouts.

Mohamadou Mbow, Bradenton Victory Rock Prep: The 6’7 senior showed a nice blend of post scoring ability and mid-range perimeter shooting.  With nifty footwork and the ability to score with either hand around the rim, Mbow was patient in finding room to score inside.  He also showed consistency in knocking down shots from fifteen feet when out on the perimeter.  Though thin, Mbow rebounded well at both ends.  We had him for 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals in the game we watched.

Luis Rolon, Kissimmee Central Point Christian: The 6’0 senior is fun to watch with his ability to create open shots for his teammates when driving to the basket.  His eyes are always up and alert, finding outlets for passes and scoring opportunities where none appear to exist.  More often than not, those passes find guys that knock down open threes with consistency.  Rolon doesn’t look to score, but can when the moment calls for it, usually by attacking the rim.  He’s solid with the ball and despite what look to be risky passes, tosses very few turnovers.  Rolon tallied ten assists in the game we took in, to go along with 5 points and 4 rebounds.

Antwann Burnett, Clearwater Surge Christian: A transfer from Alabama, the 6’6 senior is a strong-bodied guard that fills the stat sheet.  He’s a good outside shooter, takes the ball strong to the basket and finishes through contact.  Long and a good athlete, Burnett easily rotates among the perimeter spots on the defensive end.  No doubt he has some interest from Power Five schools and he looks like a player that would flourish in the SEC.  Burnett scored 14 points, grabbed a pair of rebounds and got two steals in the game we watched.

Rodney Pete, Jacksonville Potter’s House Christian Academy: The 6’5 senior took up a lot of slack for a squad that wa missing most of its size and a fair amount of established players this past weekend.  A native of Louisiana, Pete scored best when getting to the basket, whether in transition or against a set defense.  He was quite active on the offensive glass and scored regularly over bigger defenders.  He was just 1-3 on shots from beyond the arc but those were the only perimeter shots he took.  Pete looked solid in going for 15 points and 9 rebounds in the contest.

Anderes Staton-McCray, Orlando West Oaks Academy: The 6’5 senior has a growing group of mid-major plus programs recruiting him and it was easy to see why this weekend.  In a tough and physical game against a post-grad group from California, it was McCray that took the bull by the horns and led West Oaks on a run to open the second half to give them a lead they wouldn’t give up.  “A.J.” is proving to be a knock down three-point shooter (he hit a game winner later in the weekend) and a tough, physical player when it comes to driving to the basket to score or playing defense.  There were times when he was thrust into the point guard role in the game we took in and he managed it well.  He rang up 15 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal in that game.

Kendall Lawtney, Gainesville The Rock School: The 6’3 senior made things happen at both ends of the floor Friday night.  The Georgia native used his strength, solid frame, and athleticism to play bigger than his size.  He shot the ball well from the perimeter, going 2-4 from beyond the arc on his way to twelve points in the game.  Defensively he was disruptive, coming up with four steals and often beating his opponent to the spot when guarding the basketball.  Add in a couple of rebounds and an assist and it’s clear that Lawtney had a good Friday night on the court.
