TEAM M.O.A.M (Man On A Mission) 17U
This group may not have great size but MOAM has a lot of versatile players. Hunter Cattoor, a 6’2 junior guard out of Orlando Bishop Moore, was solid in his overall play on both ends of the floor. He did a nice job of finding open teammates and was active on the defensive end. Nate Louis, a 6’4 junior from Apopka, had a bit of a slow start but once he got going was tough to contain. He converted a pair of “and one” plays near the basket and showed an improved shooting touch.
Charlotte Swish
The group from Southwest Florida is primarily guys that attend Punta Gorda Charlotte but have players from neighboring schools mixed in. One of the “mix-ins” was Izzy Pierre from Immokalee. A solidly built 6’0 junior, he’s a proven scorer but on this day he focused on setting up teammates. Pierre also proved to have quick hands and fast feet on the defensive end. Makai Reeves, a 6’2 junior from Charlotte, showcased deep range on his shot. He does not need much room to get it off and scores both off the catch and off the bounce.
CP 25 Select 17U
This group may be undervalued now but we like its potential to play “giant killer” against more established teams come the live period later this month. Jordan Smith, a 5’11 speedster out of Titusville, has the ball on a string, pushes the pace, and is a willing post passer. He can also step up and score when necessary. Alan Jean Rose, a 6’6 wing out of Tallahassee Rickards, may not be known outside of the state capital now but that should change once coaches get a look at his smooth, all-around game and versatility. He handles the ball well out on the perimeter, passes well, and has a quick first step to the basket.
Game Speed Elite 17U
Though a bit under-manned with only seven players, Game Speed should not be under-estimated. Erick Lee out of Tampa had some dynamic moments. He surprised most everybody when he rammed home a dunk along the baseline early in the contest. Later on, he had a crafty finish at the basket that impressed. Keenan Blackshear, a 6’6 junior out of Orlando Jones, was nearly unstoppable when it came to getting to the basket. He has good vision and looks to make plays for others as well as score himself. His jump shot needs some fine tuning but he’ll get coaches to sit up and take notice later in the month.
Team MOAM HGSL 17U
A solid contingent of players from the Orlando area, this group is hungry to prove they can compete and win against anybody! Both Anterrius Washington and Brandon Farmer were players that seemingly did whatever was necessary to get to the winner’s circle. Washington, a 6’4 junior from Central Florida Christian Academy, used his length and quickness to cause havoc at both ends of the floor. He gets a lot of points on stickbacks and by converting steals into scores when on defense. Washington is just now starting to come around as a perimeter shooter. Farmer, a 6’5 junior from Bushnell South Sumter, did most of his work inside knifing thru the defense for scores and finishing in transition.
First Coast Elite 17U
It was admittedly a tough outing for First Coast Elite. They seemed a bit shell shocked when CP 25 jumped on them early. To their credit, the got back into it and played respectably in the second half. Brody Bayer, a 6’2 junior from Bayside in Palm Bay, was unfazed by the tough start and played well for the team from start to finish. He took the ball strong to the basket, connected on his shots from mid-range and beyond, and was fairly successful when it came to grabbing rebounds against bigger players.
